Date Spot Review: Avra Beverly Hills Estiatorio
Avra Beverly Hills Estiatorio is the third restaurant in the Avra family (the other two are located in NYC) and is an absolutely beautiful restaurant. It is an open air concept, so fitting to our beautiful mediterranean climate and their delicious mediterranean food. The restaurant is large, has an impressive bar, a lovely showcase of their fresh fish, and a patio that is a perfect spot for people watching.
While a date night is always delightful and Avra would be a great choice for that, we actually recommend visiting Avra during the day. First, because our Los Angeles weather makes a day time visit to the venue extra nice. But also, because from 11-4 during weekdays and for brunch on the weekends, Avra does a three course prix fix for $29.99 (some items are extra). It is a good deal for great food.
Not on the prix fix menu, but a good starter or the table and an Avra signature item, are the Avra chips: traditional crispy zucchini and eggplant chips with tzatziki. They are like fancy, mediterranean zucchini fries. Off the prix fix, my favorite starters are the Crab Cake made with Maryland jumbo lump crab, lentils, and mustard aioli. I also love the Chilean Sea Bass Souvlaki prepared grilled served with roasted red pepper sauce. For main course, the fish of the day is always fresh and a delight. The Lobster Pasta with light tomatoes, and garlic sauce over spaghetti is also an excellent dish. There are three options for dessert: a fruit plate, Baklava, and a Chocolate-Yogurt Cheesecake with Raspberry-Rosewater Sauce, and a little chocolate bar. I really like all three. The fruit plate has some exotic elements such as dragon fruit which make the healthier choice still fun. The Baklava is scrumptious and perfectly prepared. Not soggy at the bottom like many desserts with a thin dough. My favorite, though, has to be the Chocolate-Yogurt Cheesecake. I usually am not a cheesecake fan, but the yogurt it’s prepared with makes it light, yet decadent at the same time
